Born in Essex in 1968, Anya Hindmarch is one of the world’s foremost accessories designers thanks to her eponymous label, Anya Hindmarch.
Aged 18, Hindmarch travelled to Italy where she found a vintage bag that she believed other women would want to buy. After sending the bag to Harpers & Queen, who featured it in an issue, she received 500 orders for the style and, so, her business began. At 19 she opened her first shop in a small unit on London’s Walton Street and has since progressed to 56 stores worldwide, including two flagship stores on Sloane Street and Bond Street in London. Her handbags, which all feature the trademark bow symbol, are coveted by many and favoured by celebrities from Angelina Jolie to the Duchess of Cambridge and Baroness Thatcher.
Anya Hindmarch designs three mainline handbag collections each year, as well as shoes, luggage, small leather goods, a beach collection and small range of ready-to-wear. Each design fits in with the company’s ethos of beautiful craftsmanship and acute attention to detail.
She lives in London with her husband James Seymour, the company’s financial director, and their five children.
