Inspired by the 1895 New York based Michaux Cycle Club, Rachel Bonney was motivated by the freedom, energy and modernity which the cycle club encompassed.One of the first organisations in the world that allowed women to cycle in public, the original female Michaux Cycle Club members were regarded as courageous figureheads of a new era of freedom, not just for women, but for society as a whole, as the joy and energy harnessed by cycling encouraged a better way of living.
