Mat Hunter
Mat Hunter is Chief Design Officer at the Design Council which, for over 60 years, has promoted design for the public good. Mat heads up the organisation’s Design Challenges programme that demonstrates how design can drive innovation through tackling the big issues of our time. Whether stopping the spread of superbugs, reducing crime or promoting health and wellness for an aging population, the programme shows how design can help build a stronger economy and improve everyday life.
Before joining the Design Council Mat was a partner at IDEO, an internationally renowned design and innovation consultancy, where he focused mostly on creating new digital products and services, but occasionally food and footwear too. His current academic roles include Adjunct Professor at Imperial College Business School and external examiner for Product Design at Glasgow School of Art.
“These are exciting times for the UK. Not only do we have renewed enthusiasm for entrepreneurship and technology- enabled business, but we also recognise the power of creativity - something that the UK is strong in - at the core of a successful enterprise.
As a nation we need to do all we can to support this passion for imagining and designing and growing new businesses, and to ensure that creative people are an integral part. School for Creative Startups will be a great contributor to this endeavour.”
