Rekha Mehr
Rekha Mehr, founded Pistachio Rose in Feb 2012, a business dedicated to changing the face of Indian sweets and desserts in the UK.
Prior to setting up her own business, Rekha’s career was held in retail buying which started at Waitrose as a buying assistant in 2005. Her passion for the brand was paramount but she moved on to Amazon for accelerated career progression in 2006. After four and a half years and a lot of hard work, she left Amazon as a buying manager, leading a team of 5 buyers. Her time at both companies allowed her to gain an invaluable skill-set that she uses to drive her business forward today.
In March 2012 she was recruited as Start-up Entrepreneur in Residence at the Department for Business Innovation and Skills. In this role she is informing government policy and helping to re-shape current and future business support landscape.
“I started my business alone and sought to fill my knowledge and skills gap through self-teaching and networking. Whilst I met some great people along the way, it wasn’t the most efficient way to progress! It was also quite lonely to begin with and I longed for peers to relate to, even if not directly in my business (the days of longing for peace in my former environment to concentrate on work had come back to bite me!).
School for Creative Startups is a great place to do all of those things, providing a framework to learn and be inspired by a community of credible teachers and speakers. Building a network of trusted peers amongst your class to share your journey with is incredibly valuable and will provide a support network after the semester finishes. Most importantly, it supports you to achieve your goals and realise your potential.”
